This piece appears to be a chromed tubular metal version of a traditional wooden colonial chair. The first prototypes were made for the Villa Church with an upholstered seat and back to meet the requirements of the client, Henry Church.
A few models were then made for the Salon d’Automne in 1929, with a seat and backrest in leather. Finally, a canvas version, with natural leather edging, was proposed for the Salon de l’Union des Artistes Modernes in 1930. The versions of the Fauteuil à dossier basculant at the time all had wider armrests at the front than at the back.
